Factory Direct Models (FDM) manufactures desktop to museum size airplane and other scale models. They have been very proactive and are a classic example on how to take advantage of Social Marketing. They ramped up their customer interaction, utilizing Twitter and creating a company Facebook page. One of the key factors is Glendale Designs interaction with Factory Direct Models as well as their company interacting with us and the consumers.
The first part of December, Future of Flight Aviation Center, Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air & Factory Direct Models partnered to host an all out ‘Aviation Geekfest’ for 48 lucky aviation geeks, who had a chance to win tickets to the Future of Flight Foundation’s VIP party to view the first flight of the Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner! They also raffled off:
- 2 Tickets to the 1st 787 flight (Date TBD)
- $500 worth of Alaska Airlines gift cards
- A wooden custom model by Factory Direct Models of Alaska Airlines 737-900.
The successful campaign Sold-Out in less than a minute!
Additionally FDM has reached out and expanded its national and international interaction in the Social Arena with the possibilities of other future international campaigns.
More retailers are dialing into Social Marketing to assist them in “soft selling”, advertising and branding their products. Twitter & Facebook have become a great venue for the general public to receive news faster and interact with groups, companies and causes. This social medium has become more prominent with retailers leveraging campaigns “specials” exclusively for their social networks within their on-line presence.
We have seen large and small companies that have sold products for years either on-line or via a brick and mortar stores that:
- Have a site, but do not dedicate time to update or add content
- May or may not have a presence within the social market, or will start one and don’t dedicate the time or personnel to interact with people.
