It was time to upgrade my (now too small) SSD drive – should have gotten a larger one to begin with, wish they weren’t so pricey. After doing some extensive research we decided to go with an Intel 320 Series 300GB SSD drive. Well, actually we needed two of those. The $$ started to add up in my head and I started to feel a bit queasy, but…it had to be done.
We also needed disk cloning software to clone the old drives and bring all the data, settings and OS over to the new drives. Again, after doing some research, Acronis True Image 2012 seemed to be the way to go.
So, we headed over to Newegg to make the purchase…
Adding the Intel SSD drives to my basket was simple, but then we found 3 similar versions of Acronis True Image, and weren’t sure about the differences. On to the online chat we went. After waiting 7 minutes to get somebody to chat with us, we had the following experience:
Benjamin: Hi, my name is Benjamin. How may I help you?
Customer: need to know what the difference is between http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100010086&IsNodeId=1&Description=acronis&bop=And&CompareItemList=1044|32-200-030^32-200-030-02%23%2C32-200-033^32-200-033-02%23%2C32-200-034^32-200-034-02%23
Benjamin: Yes. I would be glad to assist you with this. Let me look into this for you. One moment, please…
…5 minutes later
Customer: what we need it for: clone SSD drive that is getting too small to a larger one so we can swap them
Customer: be able to run incremental backups from PC drives to NAS
Benjamin: Thank you for waiting. Unfortunately Newegg does not offer any sales or technical support, so I would be unable to make any suggestions or recommendations regarding your issue. For technical assistance, I would suggest you contact the product’s manufacturer directly at http://www.newegg.com/Info/ContactManufacturer.aspx
You may also visit our website www.eggxpert.com. Eggxpert is a forum site designed for our customers to meet and discuss technical issues, product recommendations, and compatibility of items. You can become a member free of charge and contact other technically savvy computer builders who would be happy to assist you with your issues.
Customer: I just want to know what the difference is between the 3
Customer: you sell all 3
Benjamin: I am not technically savvy, so I have no idea what the differences are. You may contact the manufacturer to find out.
Customer: OMG
Customer: thanks
Benjamin: You are welcome. Thank you for contacting Newegg. I hope you have an eggcellent day!
Benjamin has disconnected.
…disconnected before I could even ask a follow up question…like:
Doesn’t’ your site sell ‘Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more!’?
or
How did you get a job as a customer service rep, if you are not technically savvy at a company like Newegg? Mind me, my question wasn’t even technical, I just wanted to know the difference between what seemed to be the same product (or close to the same), since their comparison chart didn’t compare the differences.
The moral of the story is, we are going to our local Fry’s Electronics store to make the purchase, at least we always got great customer service there.
